What is Reiki?  

And how do you pronounce it? 

It's pronounced ray-key.  Reiki is a gentle, non-invasive form of energy healing that clears energetic blocks that may have been caused by trauma or distress.  Reiki restores your body's energy to its natural flow.  This allows you to more readily handle any challenges that may come your way, including physical, emotional, and more. 

How does it work? 

Science shows that every organism, including every system, organ, tissue, cell, and molecule of the human body, consists of and is surrounded by a field of electromagnetic vibrational energy.  The movement and flow of this energy is essential to life.  Reiki heals by raising the vibration of the energy field in and around the body and allowing the body's life force energy to flow in a healthy and natural way, encouraging healing of physical, mental, and emotional dis-ease.

What happens in a session?  

At the beginning of the session, I will spend a few minutes talking to you about what you would like to improve, change, or work on.  You may already know, or you may not be sure yet.  Either one is okay.  Then you lie face up on a massage table, fully clothed, without shoes.  I gently place my hands on or above your body, usually starting at the head and working my way around the body.  You are welcome to close your eyes and relax, or you are welcome to talk during our session- whatever seems right to you is perfect.  

It is best to wear comfortable clothing and minimal jewelry.  I maintain a relaxing environment using a mix of aromatherapy, gentle lighting, calming music and/or sound machine, and an emotionally supportive space for change.   

What might I get out of a session?  

While receiving Reiki, clients often report feelings of warmth, tingling, deep relaxation, or a sense of peace and calm.  Reiki will be performed with the intent to balance your energy and begin to heal what is concerning you at that time.  You may reach a new level of awareness, have insights into your emotions, have an emotional release (like laughing or crying), or develop a sense of peace about something that has been bothering you.  You may feel fully relaxed but not be sure yet how the session affected you.  Or you may uncover unexpected emotional wounds.  This means deeper healing,  but it can also bring up old feelings that have been buried for a long time.  Whatever you feel, I will support you in the process of letting go of the past and growing in your healing.  Almost everyone leaves a Reiki session feeling better than when they walked in.

Who uses Reiki and why?

  • Those with anxiety, depression, mood swings, or an overall feeling of being "stuck".  Reiki can help shift energetic blocks that may have been formed during a stressful period in your life. 
  • Clients using counseling or hypnotherapy.  Reiki helps move the blocked energy and make room for more positive feelings more quickly than therapy alone. 
  • Those who are trying to overcome an addiction.   
  • Those going through medical treatments for chronic illness or pain.  Not only can Reiki be used to help treat an illness, but also to minimize side effects of medications or treatment.

  • Creates deep relaxation and aids the body to release stress and tension, supporting the body's immune system
  • Aids in better sleep and improves and maintains health
  • Speeds up recovery from surgery or long-term illness. It also can reduce side effects of medicine or medical treatments
  • Helps with acute injuries, chronic problems, and relieving pain
  • Dissolves energy blocks and adjusts the energy flow of the endocrine system, bringing the body into balance
  • Balances the mind and emotions, bringing out a calm, peaceful mental state in which a person is better able to cope with everyday stress
  • Enhances learning, memory, mental clarity, and focus
  • Helps heal mental and emotional wounds, helping to alleviate mood swings, fear, frustration, and even anger
  • Offers relief during emotional distress and sorrow and helps in grieving process

Reiki Healing
