I'm Christy McGurgan.
I am a Therapist, a Hypnotherapist, a Reiki Energy Healer,
and a Yoga Practitioner and Teacher.
I fell in love with the idea of being a therapist in middle school. Through college, graduate school, and experience, I became a licensed professional counselor, always learning, growing, and enjoying helping others. I take pride in my ability to relate to clients, listen with a non-judgmental ear, and provide the support and guidance needed for clients to improve their lives. In addition to traditional methods of counseling, I incorporate hypnotherapy, mindfulness coaching, empowerment techniques, relaxation and meditation, and other modern techniques that challenge clients to grow in their lives.
I was first exposed to the effects of energy healing several years ago when an energy practitioner helped me immediately clear up a nasty bout of bronchitis that two rounds of antibiotics hadn't been able to touch. This exposure took me on a journey of discovery, education, and new personal and professional growth. After taking three levels of Reiki training for the benefit of healing others and myself, I became a certified Reiki Master and began to incorporate energy healing into my counseling practice. I now provide individual Reiki healing sessions and Reiki during counseling sessions, if requested.
While on this journey of discovery, education, and growth, I embarked on a path of daily yoga and meditation. While yoga is often thought of as exercise, the actual principles of yoga are a lifestyle that are meant to bring the yogi to a state of peace, acceptance, love, calm, and even enlightenment, at the deepest level. Through my own personal yoga and meditation practice, I was inspired to delve deeper, and I completed a 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training to become a Registered Yoga Teacher. What this means to me is that I can live my life by the principles of yoga, and use those principles to guide others to be the best version of themselves as well. If requested, I use yoga poses and/or principles in my counseling sessions to decrease stress, help clients find peace, and inspire clients to learn to live positive, fulfilled lives.
In 2017, I began training in hypnotherapy, where I have learned to delve into the subconscious memories, beliefs, and behavior patterns that keep us from moving forward in healthy ways in our lives. Through training and experience, I became a Certified Heart-Centered Clinical Hypnotherapist and have been working on an advanced certificate in hypnotherapy for two years. I love to continue learning and growing in both my personal and professional life, and I hope that you choose to take this journey of growth with me.
In addition to using these techniques at In The Flow, I offer weekly services to parents of hospitalized babies at the Children's Hospital of the King's Daughters Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (CHKD NICU) to give parents support during life crises and traumatic events, help them deal with the isolating challenges they are living through, and give them a space to heal and grow during a time in their lives that may seem out of control.
Now that you know a little about me, I look forward to getting to know you! Feel free to call me for a free phone consultation.
